Firefighters took around 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Neighbour Pamela Jenkins, 70, told the Advertiser she saw the smoke from her back window.

‘There was this billowing smoke coming from the house and when I saw it, I just went running the street to see if I’d could help,’ Ms Jenkins said.

‘But when I for got to the house, the street was already closed off, and the police and ambulances and fire trucks have already swarmed the place.

‘I first saw the woman … she was being taken by the ambulances and she called out to me and said her partner is still in the house.’

‘Fire investigators are on scene to determine cause and damage,’ an MFS spokesperson said.

The road has been closed near the scene, and police are asking pedestrians and drivers to avoid the area.
