Halle Berry says she will not help her children get a break in Hollywood: ‘I had no nepotism’

Halle Berry declared she will not help her children get a break in Hollywood, as she wants them to succeed independently like she did.

She shares her daughter Nahla, 16, with her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubrey and her son Maceo, 10, with her third ex-husband Olivier Martinez.

Now, the 57-year-old movie star has revealed how she would respond if her children told her they wanted to pursue careers in showbiz.

‘I would tell them: “Do it the way I did it.” I had no nepotism. Nobody helped me. I had to learn from the ground up,’ she explained.

‘They would have to do it the same way. They would have to go pay their dues, learn a craft, work hard and make it on their own for themselves,’ Halle told People.

She added that if her children are able to build their careers ‘that way, it’s always theirs. Nobody takes it away. That’s what they would have to do.’

Halle was raised in Cleveland by her single mother, a psychiatric nurse, and moved to New York to become an actress when she was 23.

During her struggling years, before she got her break on the Who’s The Boss? spin-off Living Dolls, she was at one point so strapped for cash that she lived in a homeless shelter.

Halle is currently promoting her new Netflix movie The Union, a steamy action comedy starring her opposite Mark Wahlberg.

‘Well, I got cool points when I introduced my daughter to Mark, because she loves Daddy’s Home. That’s one of her favorite movies,’ Halle shared.

‘So when I got to introduce her to Mark, I think it was the first time in my whole career where she said: “Oh, you know Mark Wahlberg? Okay you’re cool.”‘

Meanwhile Halle recently accused Olivier of trying to postpone their co-parenting therapy so that he could have the ‘summer off.’

Olivier and Halle married in 2013 while she was pregnant with Maceo and split up in 2016, finalizing the divorce in August 2023.

This May, they agreed they would go to therapy to ‘resolve disputes and conflicts between them in an effort to successfully co-parent.’

However, Halle claims Olivier skipped their July sessions to travel to his native France and now hopes to scrap the August meetings because his brother is visiting him.

She alleged he wants to resume counseling only in September, but did not clear the change with Halle or the therapist, per court documents obtained by TMZ.

Halle wants a judge to compel Olivier comply with the original schedule they agreed to, arguing that travel is irrelevant because the therapy takes place over Zoom.
