Two young children were rescued from the roof of a building after their hallucinating mother dragged them onto the second-story ledge.
Several worried neighbors called 911 on Saturday afternoon to report that the 23-year-old woman and her two children, a one-year-old boy and two-year-old girl, were perched on a ledge about 15 to 20 feet above the ground in Delray Beach, Florida.
Body cam footage shows the woman who was reportedly high on the hallucinogenic drug Molly refusing to listen to officers’ commands as they tried to bring her and the children back to safety.
Concerned neighbors called 911 after noticing a mother and her two toddlers standing precariously on a dangerous second-story ledge on Saturday in Delray Beach, Florida
Body cam footage shows police on the scene at the townhouse as they pleaded with the paranoid 23-year-old woman on the slippery ledge 15 to 20 feet above the ground
A police report indicated that the mother was high on the hallucinogenic drug Molly at the time of the incident. In the video she can be heard refusing to accept help from the officers
When officers arrived at the townhouse just after 4pm on May 19 they found the mother and two children standing on the ledge in the rain.
Two of the officers, identified as Rob Addea and Matt Warne, stood below the window ready to catch any of them if they fell from the precarious position.
‘Just get the kids back inside,’ Addea said. ‘Please. Please. That’s all we want you to do.’
The extremely paranoid woman refused to accept help saying: ‘I’m done, I’m done’ over and over again.
Both toddlers were crying in fear and shouting ‘Mommy!’
The one-year-old boy was only wearing a diaper and the three-year-old girl only had on a pair of leggings with no shirt.
Sgt Mike Debree and Sgt Brian Griffith went into the home and made their way up to the ledge through a second-story window.
‘It’s okay. It’s okay. We are the police. We are here to help,’ Debree said as he approached the woman who was holding onto the girl.
‘I want to see your badge,’ the mother said. ‘Are you a sergeant?’
Debree showed her his badge to which she replied: ‘No, it doesn’t say sergeant. Point blank, body avenger!’
Police held the arms of the one-year-old boy and two-year-old girl to prevent them from falling
They were eventually able to walk both children along the ledge to the window of an adjoining home, where they were pulled to safety. Their mother was rescued shortly after
Debree managed to grab each of the children by the arm so that they wouldn’t fall from the slick platform that was only about two-feet wide.
The officers were finally able walk the crying children several feet along the ledge to the window of an adjoining townhouse, where they were pulled to safety.
They then managed to lift the woman through a window and back inside despite her protests.
The mother, who has remained anonymous to protect the identity of her children, has been committed to a mental health facility.
She may ultimately face criminal charges once released after Florida’s Department of Children and Families conducts a comprehensive investigation.
The DCF currently has custody of the children.
