Halsey reveals she’s been committed twice since finding fame as she details overcoming mental health issues and confronting her sexual abuser

Halsey has been committed twice since finding fame as a musician.

The singer, 24, revealed ‘no one has known’ about the extent of her battle with mental health issues, but she now feels comfortable to discuss what she has been through in a public arena.

Speaking in an interview with Rolling Stone’s new July Hot Issue, she explained: ‘I’ve been committed twice since [I became] Halsey, and no one’s known about it. But I’m not ashamed of talking about it now. It’s been my choice.

‘I’ve said to [my manager], “Hey, I’m not going to do anything bad right now, but I’m getting to the point where I’m scared that I might, so I need to go figure this out”.

‘It’s still happening in my body. I just know when to get in front of it.’

The American songstress has been open about her issues with mental health – including the fact that she is bipolar.

And in her past, the Nightmare singer, has been sexually assaulted – something she isn’t afraid to voice her opinions on in retrospect.

She explained: ‘Here’s what’s f**ked up to me: A young man seeks success and power so that he can use it to control people, and a young woman seeks success and power so that she no longer has to worry about being controlled.

‘It’s an illusion, a f**king lie. There is no amount of success or notoriety that makes you safe when you’re a woman. None.’

On confronting her sexual abuser, she said that he ‘took it seriously, went to rehab, sought therapy,’ but admits there’s a risk that comes with speaking out about it.

‘Then I’m not “Grammy-nominated pop star,” then I’m “rape survivor.” Uhuh, no. Uh-uh, absolutely not. I have worked way too f**king hard to be quantified or categorised by something like that,’ she said.

The Grammy-nominated songstress flaunts her natural curly pixie cut coiffed by her usual hairstylist Florido Basallo on the cover of the magazine, which labels her ‘pop’s queen of chaos.’

It’s the second RS cover in three years for the biracial, bisexual, and bipolar belter – who just scored three nominations for the upcoming 21st annual Teen Choice Awards.

Halsey competes for choice female artist, choice song female artist (Nightmare), and choice collaboration (Boy With Luv) with BTS at the fan-voted awards ceremony, which airs August 11 on Fox in the US.
