HBO Max shared a trailer for the hitmaker’s dark Medieval tale, which explores the ‘joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth.’
Halsey plays the ‘young and pregnant Queen Lila’ who, after the sudden loss of her husband the King, ‘unlocks a paranormal power within and discovers her ability to create life (and end it).’
The trailer commences with an emotional Queen Lila running through the castle towards a room where her husband is lying lifeless with his closest cohorts circled around him.

Moments after the King is pronounced dead, Lila catches her reflection in a nearby mirror and locks eyes with a witch-like character who mirrors her movements.
Cut to the King’s funeral in the woods, where a gothic-looking Lila, dressed entirely in black with a lengthy veil, exchanges eerie stares with various members of the King’s court.
A scene showcasing violence at the hands of the King towards Lila is depicted in a choppy scene placed amid the funeral footage. It is then revealed in voiceover that Lila is to be stripped of her Queen title now that her husband has passed.

Mourning Lila, staring at members of the King’s court in front of her, stoically lifts her sleeve to reveal a large bruise on her forearm.
Cut to the Throne, where Lila is being instructed by the King’s second in command to ‘act accordingly,’ an order she does not oblige.
‘As your Queen, I am allowed to behave in any way I see fit,’ she replies, before wreaking havoc and indulging in drink with several castle maidens.

In montage, Lila bathes with several of her pals in a grand pool of water and poses before a mirror with a dressing gown held against her to protect her modesty.
Suddenly, several hands appear on Lila’s stomach, seemingly impregnating the Queen through mystical means.
The next several scenes show the progression of Lila’s baby bump as she makes her way from her first to second to third trimester.
One clip showed Lila bathing in a tub with her bump poking out from under the water due to its size.

Another montage featuring clips of a very distressed and frustrated Lila actively opposing the King’s Court play out on screen, while a man in voiceover states, ‘This woman will not go quietly.’
With Knights armed and riding around the castle on horseback – seemingly searching for Lila – she crawls up a flight of stairs towards a rustic room where she will deliver her child.
She writhes on the floor of a room and screams in pain before finally meeting her newborn, a daughter.
The trailer ends with a myriad of clips capturing the aftermath of her birth, as well as many that leave the viewer wondering about the fate of Lila, her child, and her place in the kingdom.
