Hamish Blake began growing his beard on January 1st.

And now, after relentless questioning from fans, the comedian has revealed the reason he’s been keeping clear of the razor.

Over the weekend, the 36-year-old star stepped out for Beard Season’s Launch Party – an initiative which sees men grow their facial hair during winter in order to raise awareness of skin cancer.

A hairy situation! Hamish Blake has finally revealed the reason he’s been growing his facial hair for SIX months, as he stepped out for Beard Season’s winter launch over the weekend

Hamish joined 110 other attendees at the event – including fellow funnyman Michael ‘Wippa’ Wiplfi.

The motley crew braved the elements, dressing up in nautical-inspired outfits and boarding a boat on Sydney Harbour.

Hamish opted for a fun sailor’s uniform on the night, complete with epaulets and medallions.

At one point, the star was seen enjoying a drink with Beard Season founder Jimmy Niggles, whose famous bushy beard has even attracted the attention of billionaire Richard Branson.

The Virgin co-founder – who has a net worth of US$5billion – even invited Jimmy to his private Nekker Island,  where he informed him that he had had his own skin checked after becoming aware of Beard Season.

Jimmy came up with the initiative six years ago, after tragically losing a close friend to melanoma at the tender age of 26.

And now Hamish is one of Beard Season’s biggest enthusiasts.

In a post shared to Instagram on Sunday, the radio and TV star shared a snap alongside Jimmy accompanied by a lengthy caption.

‘I came across the incredible movement started by the man pictured, Jimmy, whose sole aim is to grow beards as conversation starters to spread the word about getting a skin cancer check at your GP no matter your age or how sure you are your skin is fine.

‘Too many people find something too late, Beard Season wants to make skin checks for you and your loved ones top of mind so that doesn’t happen. As a former pale kid who is now a current pale adult with a religious skin check regime, I couldn’t have been happier to support the launch of Beard Season 2018 last night.’

Beard Season’s Facebook page is currently calling on men across the country to grow their facial hair.

‘Make sure you register and help us raise a million bucks this winter to fund a free national skincheck program because it really does work. Because together, we can outgrow melanoma,’ a recent status read.
