A number of people are trapped in cars and restaurants after a water pipe burst in Hammersmith, west London.

Photos and footage from the scene show that the area on Kings Street, near Ravenscourt Park tube station, is completely flooded.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade have said there are 35 firefighters and officers in the area.

Thames Water tweeted: ‘We are aware of a major burst in the area by Ravenscourt Park tube station on Kings Street. Engineers are on their way and will attempt to contain the leak and begin repairs. There is a police presence on site and we’re aware of flooding in the area.’

The Metropolitan police have advised motorists to avoid the area, and added that police are attending the scene. 

One Twitter user living in the area claimed that the leak began as early as 11.30am.
