Haringey Borough football players have walked off the pitch in an FA Cup qualifier after fans allegedly hurled racist abuse at players.

Their fourth round tie against Yeovil Town has already been delayed by 15 minutes after it was claimed on social media that the opponent’s fans made racial insults at the home team.

It is not yet clear whether this sparked the players to walk off at Coles Park stadium in Tottenham.

A speakerphone announcement said: ‘No comment on what has happened on the pitch, but we ask that no Haringey supporter abuses any Yeovil player or supporter.’

It has been reported that Haringey Borough’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Douglas Pajetat was the player racially abused by visiting fans.

There are also accusations that bottles were thrown from the away end, as well as players being spat on. 

Tempers flared after Yeovil were handed a penalty early in the second half.

Haringey Borough are in the Isthmian League, which host regional men’s football team from London, East and South East England. 

The incident comes less than a week after England players were subjected to shocking racial abuse in a match against Bulgaria during a Euro 2020 qualifier in Sofia. 

Some of the supporters taunted the visitors with Nazi salutes and monkey chants, causing the game to be halted twice. 

Bulgarian head coach Krasimir Balakov, Bulgarian Football Union president Borislav Mihaylov and the entire Bulgarian Executive Committe resigned in the aftermath of the match.
