Harrison Ford says the upcoming Indiana Jones film will be his last

Harrison Ford says the upcoming Indiana Jones film will be his last while revealing he will be portrayed on screen as a ‘young Indy’

Harrison Ford first cracked that famous bullwhip as Indiana Jones back in 1981, and he promises that the forthcoming instalment will be his last.

The 80-year-old Hollywood icon, who will star in the fifth film which doesn’t yet have a title, told the crowd at D23 Expo in Florida: ‘This is it! I will not fall down for you again!’

Fans are suggesting the new film should be called Indiana Jones And The Fountain Of Eternal Youth, because the actor, has been digitally de-aged for at least some of the action.

The technology has advanced enormously since Raiders of the Lost Ark was released in 1981 and Disney now appear to have used motion capture technology which allows Ford to be portrayed on screen as a man in his 20s or 30s.

Harrison – who plays the titular archaeologist in the long-running franchise –  was snapped on set with dots on his face — and a stunt double was seen riding a horse through a tickertape parade in ‘New York’ (actually Glasgow).

In the footage shown at D23, the man on the horse was ‘young Indy’, and he was protecting his beatnik goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge).

Ford appeared a tad emotional when he said: ‘I’m very proud to say that this one is fantastic. Indiana Jones movies are about fantasy and mystery, but they’re also about heart. We have a really great story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your a**.’

The trailer has not yet been released online but the release date has been confirmed as June 30, 2023.

It is described as an action-packed nostalgic movie that uses a digitally-enhanced, younger looking version of the actor for certain flashback scenes.

The musical score will be composed by the legendary, John Williams who scored the original soundtrack 40 years ago.

Temple Of Doom went on to become a global hit, though some viewers found the film too dark and violent, and it was pivotal in the creation of the PG-13 rating for films that were too mature for children but didn’t qualify for an R rating.

Despite its financial and critical success, others criticized the film for what they found to be racist depictions of Indian and Chinese cultures.

After appearing in Steven Spielberg’s film, Quan was on screen the following year in the cult film The Goonies, which was based on a story by Spielberg and was directed by Richard Donner.

But despite playing prominent parts in two cultural major films, opportunities for the Vietnamese-born actor began to dry up in the late 1980s and 1990s.

After giving up on an acting career in the late 1990s, he enrolled in the University of Southern California’s film program to explore new opportunities.

He worked as a fight choreographer on 2000’s X-Men, and he served as acclaimed Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai’s assistant director on his science fiction romance 2046.

After the success of Crazy Rich Asians, Quan thought Hollywood was more accepting of Asian actors and began actively pursing projects again.

He starred in last year’s surprise indie hit Everything Everywhere All At Once, which also earned widespread praise for its star Michelle Yeoh.

The multitalented actor was on hand on Saturday at D23 to promote the upcoming second season of Loki, which he will be appearing in with Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
