Harrison Ford weighs in on the debate that he was a fashion icon in the 1980s after ‘inspirational’ images resurface

Harrison Ford had a hilarious response to those who have branded him as a fashion icon after a photo from the 1980s resurfaced.

When the Indiana Jones alum, now 82, stopped to pose for photographers as he arrived at the Cannes Film Festival in 1982, the actor had no idea that the images would continue to circulate for more than four decades.

The movie star wore a pair of tiny navy blue shorts and a matching sweater during the outing, and he completed the laid-back look with brown boat shoes and big shades.

He oozed confidence as he stood in front of a massive mansion and gave a small smirk towards the camera.

Between his cool demeanor and chic ensemble, snaps of him from the event are often still shared on social media even now, 42 years on.

In addition, the outfit he wore has since become an ‘inspiration’ for ‘menswear enthusiasts,’ according to GQ magazine.

But the Hollywood legend doesn’t seem to be a fan of the photos’ resurgence.

In fact, Harrison was recently asked about the now-iconic moment during a sit-down with GQ, and he made it clear that he is not too keen of the images still being all over the web.

‘This is GQ, so I have to ask you one fashion question. There’s this photo of you at the Cannes Film Festival in 1982, where you’re wearing blue shorts and a blue sweater,’ the reporter said to the Star Wars alum during their interview.

‘It’s become this sort of shining-star inspirational outfit for menswear enthusiasts. Are you aware of this?’

‘I think I’m going to be ill,’ he replied, before adding, ‘I’ve seen the pictures.’

When asked if he was ‘not a fan,’ he simply stated, ‘I’ve grown out of it.’

Multiple X accounts have shared the images of Harrison at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival over the last few months.

An account called History Defined posted it back in September, alongside a photo of him at the same event in 2023, writing, ‘Harrison Ford at Cannes Film Festival now and then.’

Another user who goes by The Forgot Things uploaded one of the pictures in July, and simply captioned it with, ‘Harrison Ford at the Cannes Film Festival, 1982.’

In addition, similar posts have popped up on other platforms, like Reddit and Instagram, in recent years.

While chatting with the publication, Harrison also revealed that he has no intention of retiring from acting, because he said it gives him ‘essential human contact.’

When asked why he continues to work, the actor, who recently appeared in the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking, explained ‘I get out of it essential human contact.

‘I get to imagine with people that have great skill and experience. It’s fun to work with these people.’
