Harry Phipps and the Beaumonts

THE CASE AGAINST HARRY PHIPPS:

* Adelaide businessman Harry Phipps bore a strong likeness to an identikit picture of a man said to be in the company of the three children at the beach before they went missing.

* Phipps lived in walking distance from Glenelg Beach.

* Phipps was known to have been violent and has been accused of sexually abusing his son and raping another young girl.

* He owned the New Castalloy factory in 1966, where he asked two young boys at the time to dig a large hole.

* Phipps was known to carry a wad of one pound notes. After the children went missing a shop owner at Glenelg identified Jane Beaumont as coming into the store on Australia Day and buying food with a one pound note, though he parents only gave her a few shillings for the day out.
