Hartlepool United have officially been put up for sale, just six months after the club’s last change of ownership.

The decision has been made amid serious debts that have been mounting during their first season in non-League.

Hartlepool were relegated from the Football League last season and owners Sage Investments feel they have taken the club as far as it can go.

‘The club needs more investment,’ a frank statement from Hartlepool said.

‘Over the past few months the club has spoken to several interested parties. However, no firm proposals have been forthcoming, and the club now feels that the net needs to be widened beyond the town to attract the necessary investment.

‘The club would welcome expressions of interest from investors that are serious.’ 

Hartlepool have lost their last four matches in all competitions and sit 14th in the National League table.

Two insiders have said the club currently operates losses of more than £100,000 per month.
