A primary school headmaster has appeared in court accused of assaulting a teaching assistant by spraying her in the face with a fire extinguisher.
Jerome McCormack is alleged to have injured teaching assistant Patricia Thompson during a safety demonstration at a Catholic school in Amesbury, Wiltshire.
McCormack, 46, is accused of hitting his colleague with foam from the fire extinguisher while giving the demonstration in the school playground.
Ms Thompson required medical attention after the foam hit her in the face at Christ the King school on May 25.
The headteacher, who lives in Seend, Melksham, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court for the first time today to deny a charge of common assault.
Irishman McCormack, wearing a grey three-piece suit, spoke only to confirm his name and address before pleading not guilty.
He will next appear at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on January 26 for another plea hearing, before his two-day trial at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court beginning on March 8. He was given unconditional bail.
As of December 1 Ms Thompson had not returned to work.
