Heartbroken England fans travelling back from Berlin are facing ‘f***ing chaos’ with ‘thousands of hungry Brits’ left stranded in Calais ‘for hours’.

Following the Three Lions’ defeat to Spain, crestfallen Brits began the 13-hour trudge back to the UK.

But it’s turning out to be a nightmare journey, with one fan saying it will take him a full 24 hours to get home to London.

P&O Ferries posted on X at 6pm: ‘Please be advised, there are currently queues at border controls of approx. 60 minutes, these are after located after our check-in.

‘Please allow extra time and be prepared for a wait. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and will get you on the next sailing.’

A frustrated England fan told MailOnline: ‘It is absolute f***ing chaos getting back from Berlin. There are thousands of us in the same boat – literally.

‘We were on the roads and pretty much every other number plate was a British plate, so you could just tell it was thousands upon thousands of people heading back from Berlin.

‘We finally got to Calais for the 7.30pm ferry from Calais to Dover and we arrived an hour before but it was really backed up already.

‘We got to the barrier about 6:45 and they said ‘you’re too late for the 7.30 ferry, that’s already gone’ and they said the next ferry was at 11pm.

‘It took two hours to get through Border Force just to queue for the ferry where there’s a duty free and a cafe.’

Tragically, the ‘small’ cafe had run out of bread rolls by the time he got there.

He added: ‘They had one small cafe at Calais port and all the rolls were gone by the time we got there – the whole atmosphere was so chaotic.

‘You’ve got a bunch of tired British people who have been on the road for 15, 16 hours and couldn’t get fed because the cafe had run out of food.

‘Luckily there was a duty free so we could get chocolate and biscuits and drink. I think that’s what the majority of people are doing.

‘Border Force are so casual, not helpful at all. No one really knows what’s going on and throw in tens of thousands of tired, hungry Brits and it’s just a disgrace really.’

It comes after a flight carrying England fans back from Berlin was forced to make an emergency landing due to what the airline said was an ‘undefined smell in the cabin’.

The Manchester-bound flight was forced to return to the German airport around 15 minutes after it took off yesterday morning.

Flight EW8470 took off at 8.09am and climbed to 10,000 feet before turning around and landing back at Berlin at 8.26am, flight trackers show.

The Airbus A319 was met by the airport fire service and the roughly 150 passengers and crew on board were evacuated and taken back to the terminal.

Brits on board have complained about being left ‘stranded’ for hours with no information, with many going back through passport control and saying they have had no texts from operator Eurowings.
