Heartbroken mother vows to get ‘justice’ for daughter, 40, who died after travelling to Turkey for weight loss surgery – as dog groomer’s tragic final Facebook post revealed

A heartbroken mother has vowed to get justice for her daughter who died after travelling to Turkey for weight loss surgery.

Hayley Butler, 40, from Norwich, died following complications from gastric sleeve weight loss procedure in the popular cosmetic surgery hotspot.

The bariatric procedure involves cutting away a large part of a patient’s stomach to leave behind a smaller ‘sleeve’, reducing their appetite and calorie intake.

Today her grieving mother, Gillian Moore, told MailOnline: ‘There is a lot I could say – but I want to bury her first. I want to get justice for her.’

Ms Moore described her daughter’s death as ‘a nightmare’, saying she was still awaiting the results of a post-mortem.

Ms Butler was the owner of Diva Dogs, a successful dog grooming salon in the Shipfield area of Norwich.

It is believed that Ms Butler headed out to Turkey after announcing on September 23 on her Facebook page for Diva Dogs that she was going away, although she did not say she was having surgery.

Her tragic final post said: ‘Hi!! Just to let everyone know I’m now off until the 14th October.

‘I won’t have my diary with me when I’m away so I’ll reply to any message when I return on the 14th October!’ See you all soon!’

Ms Moore updated her daughter’s page on October 12 with a post saying: ‘On behalf of Hayley: We need to let you know that Hayley won’t be available for the foreseeable period, and until further notice.

‘Hayley will make you all aware upon return to work, but until then, we ask you to please respect our privacy, and withhold from contacting us during this time. Thank you, Hayley’s Mum.’

But Ms Moore, of Barton Turf near Norwich, announced her daughter’s death on Facebook last Saturday in a post which described her as ‘beautiful’.

Her post added: ‘I am heartbroken she was cruelly taken from me this week. She was my soulmate, friend and my rock.

‘My life will never be the same without her. Words cannot explain what me and my family are going through.’

Tributes have also been left outside the dog grooming salon where flowers were laid along with an announcement of the tragic death.

It read: ‘Our founder and owner, Hayley who poured her heart and soul into Diva Dogs and created a warm, welcoming space for our community and their dogs, has devastatingly passed away on the 24th October 2024

‘For years, the salon was not only a safe place for our dogs, but for friendships, laughter, and countless memories. The legacy Hayley leaves behind is one of passion, creativity, and kindness that touched everyone who walked through these doors. Hayley will be forever grateful for the support, loyalty, and love that each of you has shown over the years.’

‘As we close this chapter, we ask for your understanding for her family and friends and ask for your thoughts as we navigate through this difficult time.’

‘Thank you for being a part of Hayley’s salon family, for your loyalty, and for making this place so special for her.

‘Hayley was not just a “dog groomer” she was a daughter, a friend, a sister and an amazing mother to her animals who she loved dearly. Hayley was undoubtedly the most bright, bubbly, beautiful, sincere and extremely talented woman.

‘The reality of her loss is crippling, yet we know she lives on in memory in the many lives she touched.

‘Please try to refrain from contacting the family during this time and remember to be respectful.

‘Rest in Peace, our Hayley’

Describing her friend and colleague, Jessica Carter, said: ‘There’s so much to say about Hayley it’s impossible to fit it all into words. She was just unapologetically Hayley.

‘She was amazing at her job and so knowledgeable. I’ve been a groomer for 10 years and I learnt so much from her.

‘But she wasn’t just a dog groomer, she was really funny, she was bright, she was bubbly, she had this contagious laugh and could make anyone laugh.

‘It’s a shock to everyone – she was so young and it just feels so cruel.

Customers of Butler’s also took to social media to share their tributes following her tragic passing with tributes being left outside her store.

One said: ‘There are some people in this world that make everything seem better, Hayley was one of them.

‘She always smiled and we would usually have a giggle about something or other. She was lovely to our furry girls and us.

‘I feel lucky that I met Hayley, it’s a privilege to have known such a lovely person.’
