Heather Knight shines and Anya Shrubsole makes history as England beat Pakistan to stand on the brink of the Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals

  • Bowler Shrubsole took three for 25, as England recorded a 42-run victory
  • Heather Knight has made four half centuries — and a hundred against Thailand
  • Her dominating batting means her team now only need to beat West Indies

Heather Knight continued her love affair with the Manuka Oval on Friday and Anya Shrubsole made history as England beat Pakistan to stand on the brink of the Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals.

Knight hit 62 from 47 balls, while Shrubsole became only the third woman to reach 100 T20 international wickets when she took three for 25, as England recorded a 42-run victory.

Knight has now made four half centuries — and a hundred against Thailand on Wednesday — in her last five innings in Canberra.

Her dominating batting means her team now only need to beat West Indies in Sydney on Sunday to reach the last four.

England’s 158 for seven on Friday was an above-par total that was always likely to be too much for Pakistan, who could reach just 116 all out in reply.

England’s 20-year-old spinners Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn took five wickets between them.
