A seven-months pregnant woman has been stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and chest after disturbing a 14-year-old intruder in her northern Sydney home.

The 33-year-old woman was attacked during the break-in at her Mt Colah home on Thursday evening.

She sought assistance from neighbours after the boy fled the scene.

Emergency services were called and the woman was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital, where she is in a stable condition.

The condition of the unborn baby is unknown.  

Police arrested the teen at a nearby home about an hour later.

He is awaiting surgery under police guard at Hornsby Hospital after suffering hand wounds.
