A self-proclaimed ‘Muslim soldier’ who reveres his body as a finely-tuned ‘Lamborghini’ has been charged with aggravated assault after an ugly spat broke out the front of his South Sydney gym.

Hossein Balapour, better known to his 176,000 Instagram followers as ‘Yakiboy’, went toe-to-toe with a gym-goer who he believed started yelling at his wife on the morning of December 1 last year.

According to documents tendered in court last Tuesday, 58-year-old Raymond Carl got in a shouting match with Cherish Balapour over a piece of gym equipment, only to find her husband, exactly half his age, towering over him.

Mr Balapour says he received a phone call from his wife at about 8am and rushed to her aid, thinking she was in danger, The Daily Telegraph reported.

According to the police documents, Mr Carl had been waiting to use gym equipment Mrs Balapour was on and had tried speaking to her.

But Mr Carl says he couldn’t have spoken to Ms Balapour because she had headphones in and wouldn’t have been able hear him speak at his normal volume.

They had a ‘conversation’ when she had finished, which quickly dissolved into a shouting match, police documents say.

Mr Carl claims it was then Mr Balapour confronted him outside the gym and grabbed him by the throat, an allegation the bodybuilder vehemently denied.

Mr Carl is alleged to have told Mr Balapour he hadn’t spoken to his wife at all, at which time Mr Balapour towered over him, squeezed his arm and said: ‘Yes you did, you told her to f**k off.’

The 58-year-old then claims he said: ‘No one said anything to your wife. How could she hear, she had headphones on.’

Then, Mr Carl claims Mr Balapour began strangling him, but did not cut off his breathing.

According to the court documents, Mr Balapour was cooperative with police when they arrived to investigate.

He was later charged with one count of aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm and ordered to report to police three days every week.

In court on Tuesday, his barrister requested the reporting days be lowered to accommodate for Mr Balapour’s aspiring modelling career.

The request was accepted, and the requesting days changed to once per week, with the matter adjourned until April 21.
