Here’s how to survive Mercury Retrograde as the world enters astrological ‘turmoil’ for the next 21 days: ‘Strap in’

Mercury ‘went retrograde’ on Sunday, kickstarting a potentially painful 23 days of honest self-reflection, relationship woes and travel problems.

Mercury Retrograde refers to the periods where the small silver planet appears to be moving backwards through the sky. And is credited with wreaking havoc in people’s lives.

According to astrologers it mostly interferes with communication, technology and travel, and forces people to slow down or ‘face the consequences’.

The latest cosmic stint will continue to serve up the same obstacles, according to astrologers.

LA based astrologer Evan Nathanial Grim told FEMAIL this month’s Mercury Retrograde features a Cazimi square Uranus which will be the end of some relationships.

Couples will be forced to face harsh reality checks, whether they are willing to accept them or not.

‘Those reality checks and epiphanies could prompt a separation for some couples, however, it could also help them solidify a relationship or reaffirm their commitments,’ he said.

This is because the rare square gives a moment of clarity and helps aids in decision making, he explained.

The 33-year-old said half of the zodiac will be more strongly impacted by this month’s retrograde than the other.

And it could be especially painful for Virgos.

‘People with major placements from 0-4 degrees of the mutable signs (Virgo, Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini) and 21-29 degrees of the fixed signs (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio) will be most personally affected by this retrograde since Mercury will be in a hard aspect to their placements in these areas of the zodiac,’ he said.

Travel with be especially difficult ‘due to a square from Saturn in Pisces to Jupiter and Mars in the Mercury-ruled Gemini’.

‘I would suggest building in extra time for potential delays,’ he said.

Technical glitches are also more likely, he added, urging everyone to make backups of important digital files.

‘Plan ahead for travel delays, proofread your emails and texts before sending them, postpone important contract negotiations or purchases if possible, prioritize the completion of unfinished projects, and seek closure with unresolved conversations,’ he warned.

But it isn’t all bad news.

Issues in relationships could become glaringly obvious - and people will be forced to fix the problems or break up

‘This retrograde really offers a chance to rediscover a sense of romance, excitement and joy,’ Mr Grim said.

‘You can infuse your relationships with a bit more novelty and passion. You could finally complete a creative project you’re proud of. And you can find the hidden magic of your local environment or neighborhood.’

He explained the retrograde has two parts – so people should focus on their personal health until the 14th before turning their attention to romance and relationships until August 28.
