Shocking footage shows the moment a police officer rescues a toddler from a busy motorway after he got away from his mother in Chicago, Illinois.
The Dashcam footage, which was posted on social media by the police department, shows Sgt. Anthony Mannino patrolling the busy Route 59 in Naperville.
Seeing the toddler running up the road as heavy traffic whizzes past him, Mannino can be heard saying in his radio: ‘Thirty-one, trying to corral a 1-year-old boy running across 59 just north of North Aurora,’
As the squad car comes to a stop, Mannino is heard shouting at the child darting along the road next to a truck.
The Dashcam footage, which was posted on social media by the police department, shows Sgt. Anthony Mannino patrolling the busy Route 59 in Naperville in Chicago, Illinois
Seeing the toddler running up the road as heavy traffic whizzes past him, Mannino can be seen running up to the child and reassuring him before scooping him up and taking him into the car
The police sergeant is then seen sprinting towards the little boy to calm him down before asking him his name and reassuring him that he’s alright.
He then scoops the child into his arms and returns to the police car.
It is not known how the child became separated from his mother but he has been returned unharmed.
The department congratulated the hero sergeant on social media with the caption ‘Well done sergeant.’
They also wrote: ‘Luckily, no one was hurt, and we attribute that to Sgt. Mannino’s observation while on patrol and quick reaction, placing his squad car and himself between the child and traffic,’
