A hero dog who has saved his owners’ lives numerous times is now fighting for his own after mysteriously falling ill a day after a disgruntled neighbour left a fake council letter complaining about noise.
Six-year-old Kobi was taken to animal emergency vets in Carrara, in the Gold Coast, on Thursday night when he quickly deteriorated three hours after a trip to the park.
His unusual case has baffled vets after tests indicated his symptoms could potentially be caused by a snake bite, liver disease or baiting.

‘His vomit was black. It had all sorts of stuff in it. He didn’t really want to move. He had diarrhoea, and was losing fluid. He got really weak and he collapsed and he didn’t want to get up.
‘That’s just not our Kobi,’ owner Danni Borody told Daily Mail Australia.
The previous day, Ms Borody and her partner Bradley Damico received a dire letter, allegedly from the local council, claiming they had two weeks to make their dog stop barking or they faced a penalty of $67,250 or the animal could be seized.
But when Ms Borody called the council to chase up the unaddressed letter – complete with a reference number, signature, and the council’s logo- she was told it was a fake.
‘They said someone did make a complaint but said the note hadn’t been sent from them,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.
The beloved Kelpie cross has a special knack for knowing when his owners are in danger, despite not being a trained service dog.
He causes a scene to alert others when Ms Borody, who suffers from PTSD blackouts, has become unconscious, and has also intervened when Mr Damico, who battles with mental illness, has had ‘dark moments’.

As vets struggle to make sense of the puzzling results, the Helensvale couple are now doing everything they can to foot the $10,000 bill keeping him alive.
‘He is still having trouble clotting his own blood, that is why he hasn’t been able to come home tonight. He is stable but we have been told it could go either way,’ Ms Borody said.
‘[But] he is such a determined dog and we’ve seen him pull through things before.’

A gofundme page has been set up, and artist Ms Borody is selling her work via her Instagram page while her partner is offering ‘hubby for hire’ services in exchange for donations through his business, D-amico landscaping and maintenance.

‘I’m on a disability pension and that’s why I started my business at home. In this situation I thought what can I do to make money?’ she said.
Ms Borody said the community has rallied around them and the pair feel so lucky for the ‘completely unexpected’ support.
‘Businesses have offered to hold a flash sale at the Karma Collab Hub and artists have been donating works’
The couple handed the letter to police who said an investigation will be launched if testing is conclusive for baiting.
On September 1 the Queensland Liberal National Party announced harsher dog baiting penalties following a spate of incidents around the Gold Coast.
