A father has tragically drowned after heroically swimming out to save his two young sons at a Victorian beach.
Emergency services were called to Skenes Creek beach near the Great Ocean Road on Thursday afternoon after a 41-year-old man got into trouble in rough oceans.
His two children, aged eight and 12-years-old, had safely returned to shore.
A family member raced to assist the father but he was unable to be revived.
