A hero firefighter and another courageous man rushed to protect customers shopping in a New Mexico convenience store where a gunman opened fire earlier this summer.
The frightening incident took place at a Giant gas station in Española in June. The Española Police Department released surveillance footage over the weekend that shows two angles from inside the store.
Local firefighter Enrico Trujullio was identified as one of the men who shielded a female friend from the gunfire.

The firefighter and woman rushed to the back of the convenience store with the other customers until the gunfire stopped
Trujullio told KRQE: ‘I saw two people fighting and a crowd started to form outside… I saw a kid walking from the back of a vehicle and he loaded the gun.
‘We heard gunshots go off, (my friend) ran into the store in front of me, and my first instinct was just to cover her.’

‘I wasn’t sure whether or not they were going to go inside the store,’ Trujullio told the station.
‘Here at work, we are always watching out for one another. One of our main duties is to preserve life and property. I take that seriously.’
In another angle from the surveillance video, an unidentified male customer is seen shielding two children and another woman when the gunshots went off from outside.

The Española Police Department said on Facebook: ‘Watch as this unidentified man takes two children in his arms and shields them with his body as shots were fired in their direction.
‘As he went to the ground, he also positioned his body over a woman who was already laying down.
‘Without hesitation, this man protected three lives. Thank you sir for your bravery.’
There were no injuries from the incident.
The Facebook video had 8,000 views as of Monday night.
The department confirmed two men were arrested. Their names have not been released.
