Hibs director of football operations Derek White quit Easter Road club last month over allegations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’

A senior member of the Hibernian management has quit over allegations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’.

Director of Football Operations Derek White left the club last month.

Previously Head of Football Operations at Easter Road, the former Livingston company secretary was only handed a change of job title in September.

Mail Sport previously approached Hibernian seeking clarity on information alleging that White had left the club over a disciplinary issue.

While the club said only that the 24-year-old had resigned from his post — which involved overseeing administrative and logistical functions — they have now confirmed that White resigned after allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards a young male player aged over 18 at the club came to light.

Following an internal investigation, Hibernian say they contacted the SFA and Disclosure Scotland with details of the episode.

A club spokesperson said: ‘The club can confirm that Derek White resigned from his role at Hibernian FC, whilst an internal investigation into his conduct was ongoing.

‘Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, the details of it will remain confidential.

‘The club informed the relevant authorities and organisations following our strict safeguarding procedures.’

Mail Sport understands that the Scottish FA have been in discussions with Hibernian’s child welfare officer to establish that White was not in regulated work or a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

The governing body have also been assured that no harm was caused to a minor.

Disclosure Scotland are responsible for safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults across Scotland, but declined to comment on an individual case.

There is a legal requirement for organisations to refer employees within three months if they have been dismissed or would have been dismissed for behaviour perceived to be a cause of harm or potential harm toward children or protected adults.

White failed to respond when contacted by Mail Sport.
