A gang of high schoolers paraded into their local IKEA store where they snapped some snazzy homecoming shots before heading off to enjoy a special night.
The happy-go-lucky teens from Frisco, Texas, posted the pictures to Twitter which show the well-dressed crew modeling next to couches and other home statement pieces for sale inside the furniture shop.
The official Twitter page for IKEA USA came across the unique photo shoot on social media, and responded, saying: ‘Now THAT’S how you put the home in homecoming!’
Some Texas high schoolers wanted to make a statement for homecoming, so they went to IKEA
One 16-year-old girl who helped organize the shoot, Megan Goulding, said her guy friend Hayden McFarland, came up with the idea
It was initially a joke, but ended up being the popular group vote to take the pictures
‘Most of my friends were onboard, but a few definitely needed encouragement to get into it,’ Goulding told Yahoo Lifestyle in an interview
Goulding’s mother, Shandee, agreed to take the pictures, which look nothing short of professional
One 16-year-old girl who helped organize the shoot, Megan Goulding, said her guy friend Hayden McFarland, came up with the idea, which was initially as a joke, but ended up being the popular group vote.
‘A few weeks ago when we started planning homecoming, we were trying to find out where to take our pictures, and (he) said ‘IKEA’ as a joke, but I was totally onboard with it from the beginning,’ Goulding told Yahoo Lifestyle.
‘Most of my friends were onboard, but a few definitely needed encouragement to get into it,’ she said in the interview.
‘To make my friends more confident, I asked them, ‘When you are 40, would you rather show your kids pictures at a park or IKEA?’ I say IKEA!’
The teen said the snapshots from the memorable evening will likely go great with her IKEA decor in her soon-to-be college dorm room
‘I do plan to furnish my dorm with IKEA furniture because it is fairly priced and very useful,’ Goulding said
‘A lot of their decor and furniture is my style and I will for sure use it in my dorm!’
Goulding revealed she was ‘so excited to pose in all the staged rooms,’ as she discussed her love for the warehouse that she often shops at.
Goulding’s mother, Shandee, also supported the group’s goofy idea and agreed to take the pictures, which look nothing short of professional.
Goulding also spoke with Refinery 29 about the interesting experience, and said the group got some odd looks from people inside the store.
‘When we first got there and started posing, one employee looked at us very confused and shook his head but just walked away,’ said Goulding.
The teens made the trip to IKEA before heading out to the homecoming festivities
‘Later on, we actually took a picture with an IKEA employee because he let us! We were being super-respectful and so they seemed okay with it.’
