Hillary Clinton has revealed she fought back tears watching Kate McKinnon’s impression of her on Saturday Night Live after her election loss.
In her new memoir, What Happened, Clinton reveals that she’d been deeply moved by McKinnon’s emotionally-charged portrayal of her, just days after Donald Trump snatched election victory.
That show opened with McKinnon – who has just won an Emmy for her impression – sat behind a grand piano, playing a haunting rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Clinton wrote how she’d sat down to watch McKinnon ‘open the show with her impression of me one more time’.
‘As she sang, it seemed like she was fighting back tears,’ she continued. ‘Listening, so was I.’
The former Secretary of State then shared a verse of Cohen’s song, performed by McKinnon, which appeared to have a special significance, in the excerpt tweeted out by ABC’s Chris Donovan.
‘I did my best, it wasn’t much. I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch.

‘I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you.
‘And even though it all went wrong, I’ll stand before the lord of song, with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah.’
‘At the end, Kate-as-Hillary turned to the camera and said, “I’m not giving up and neither should you,”‘ Clinton continued, in the chapter titled ‘Grit and Gratitude.’
McKinnon also paid tribute to the former presidential candidate during her acceptance speech for her Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series on Sunday.
‘On a very personal note, I want to say thank you to Hillary Clinton for your grace and grit,’ McKinnon said.

SNL swept the board at the Emmys last night, winning the Variety Sketch Series category for the first time since 1993 and sweeping all four comedy series acting categories it was eligible for.
They include Alec Baldwin who won Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Trump, Melissa McCarthy’s Sean Spicer won her Best Guest Actress, while Dave Chappelle took Best Guest Actor and McKinnon won Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Unlike Donald Trump and his administration, who have hated their impressions on SNL, Clinton appears to have enjoyed her own portrayal on the sketch show.

She was even spotted having a cozy dinner with her doppelganger in February, and has previously appeared in a sketch with McKinnon in 2015.
It’s unlikely we’ll see President Trump meeting with his SNL doppelganger Alec Baldwin any time soon.
For the months leading up to the election, and ever since, SNL has mercilessly mocked President Donald Trump and his administration.
While he is no longer tweeting about the ‘not funny’ show, sources in the White House have reported that Trump is obsessed with the portrayal of him and his administration on the comedy show.
He was particularly mad when the show began portraying his (male) administration members, such as former press secretary Sean Spicer and Attorney General Jeff sessions, as women.
