Hillary Clinton is facing conservative backlash online after calling Donald Trump a ‘danger to the country’ less than 48 hours after a second assassination attempt on his life.
The one-time Democratic presidential nominee made the comments during an interview on MSNBC with host Rachel Maddow Monday night while promoting her new book.
‘I don’t understand why it is so difficult for the press to have a consistent narrative about how dangerous Trump is,’ Clinton said.
She suggested journalists should cover the ‘object’ stating: ‘well the object in this case is Donald Trump, his demagoguery, his danger to the country and the world, and stick with it.’

Conservatives and Trump supporters seized on the comments online.
‘Hillary Clinton knows exactly what she’s doing here,’ posted Trump’s son Donald Jr. on X.
He accused his father’s past political rival of ‘purposely fanning the violent leftwing flames to put his life further in danger.’
Conservative political commentator Liz Wheeler wrote Clinton’s remarks ‘is the rhetoric that begets TWO assassination attempts against Trump.’
Another X user wrote ‘Hillary Clinton couldn’t even wait 48 hours after an assassination attempt to tell everyone that Donald Trump is a danger to our country and the world. Unbelievable.’
58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested on Sunday after the second assassination attempt on the Republican presidential nominee while he was playing a round of golf on Sunday at his club in Palm Beach, FL.
Former President Donald Trump’s son blasts Hillary Clinton on X
In the interview, Maddow shared her observation that she still thinks Trump is being taught by the media that the ‘more offensive he is, the more he can dominate the media space entirely.’
Maddow then asked Clinton if there is a way for people not to take ‘that bait.’
Clinton in her response slammed the press’ for its handling of Trump coverage.
‘The press is not able to cover Trump the way they should,’ Clinton said. ‘They careen from one outrage to the next. What was outrageous three days ago is no longer on the front pages even though it threatens the physical safety of so many people.’
The former Secretary of State specifically mentioned the safety of immigrants.
She blasted the press saying it was ‘merciless in what they saw as President Biden’s, you know, problems in the debate and calling for him to withdraw,’ Clinton said.
Clinton said she believes Donald Trump has disqualified himself ‘over and over and over again to be a presidential candidate let alone along a president.’

Clinton made her remarks slamming former President Trump in an interview with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC where the liberal host asked the former Secretary of State about ways for people not to take Trump’s ‘bait’
The former first lady and senator also suggested Trump is counting on people being desensitized with his comments. She warned Americans need to take Trump ‘both seriously and literally.’
Clinton went on to slam the ex-president for ‘failing to protect American lives during covid’ as well as ‘romance with dictators.’
‘We can’t go back and give this very dangerous man another chance to do harm to our country and the world,’ Clinton repeated.
She did not mention nor was she asked about the assassination attempt on Trump’s life in the clip.
JD Vance slams Clinton for her comments on charging Americans who engage in Russian disinformation operations
Later in the interview, Clinton and Maddow discussed Russian disinformation operations and how they are using Americans willingly or unwittingly to disseminate Russian propaganda.
Clinton said it’s important to indict the Russians but she also said there are Americans who are engaged in the propaganda.
She suggested them being civilly or criminally charged would be a ‘better deterrent because the Russians are unlikely… to ever stand trial in the United States.’
Conservatives including Trump’s own running mate pounced on the remarks.
‘Hillary Clinton is calling for censorship, but she’s really calling for violence,’ JD Vance claimed in a post on X.
It comes after U.S. officials with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in Washington confirmed this summer the existence of the Russian plan to install Trump in the White House.
Earlier this month, the U.S. announces sanctions, indictments and seized web domains that officials say Russia used to spread disinformation.
