Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has taken to late-night TV to call for ‘common sense laws’ on guns in the wake of the Vegas tragedy.
Mrs Clinton, appearing on The Tonight Show, also told host Jimmy Fallon that ‘one whole political party’ in the US was ‘totally sold to the gun lobby’.
And later in the show, she was read a thank you note by pop singer Miley Cyrus, who praised her for being a ‘constant beacon of strength, hope and determination’.
Her appearance came just days after Stephen Paddock, 64, murdered 58 people and injured hundreds of others when he fired into a crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas strip.

Miley finished by asking: ‘Can I give you a hug?’ before the two embraced to applause
She said: ‘The vast majority of Americans and the vast majority of gun owners know we need common sense laws.’
The day after the horrible scenes in Nevada, Mrs Clinton tweeted: ‘The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots.
‘Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get.’
Last night, meanwhile, she was also read notes of thanks by The Tonight Show’s female writers as a piano played in the background.
Then Miley Cyrus took the chair and hailed Hillary as a ‘voice of reason in uncertain times’.
She finished by asking: ‘Can I give you a hug?’
Mrs Clinton then said: ‘Thank you, Miley, tonight’s show writers and all of the women and young girls out there who are smart, strong and deserving of every opportunity.

‘As Miley would say: We can’t stop and we won’t stop.’
Mrs Clinton also attacked President Donald Trump over his reaction to Hurricane Maria while promoting her new book, What Happened.
She said: ‘What are you spending your time doing? Golfing? Tweeting? Watching cable TV? Find some time to tell the navy to get down there.’
The former Secretary of State added: ‘If I had lost to another Republican, someone I disagreed with but thought was temperamentally able to be president, I would be disappointed – but I wouldn’t be so worried about my country.’
