His Dark Materials renewed for season three… after Lin-Manuel Miranda shares funny on-set video

BBC One and HBO officially renewed His Dark Materials for a third season just two days after the second season finale aired.

Production on the fantasy drama, set in a multi-world reality, will commence in Cardiff next year – according to the BBC press release.

England is in the midst of a second coronavirus surge, with a strain 70% more contagious, and there have been 1.77M confirmed cases leading to 59K deaths as of Tuesday.

The third season will be specifically based on the third Philip Pullman novel, The Amber Spyglass, which was published way back in 2003.

Dafne Keene, Amir Wilson, Ruth Wilson, Simone Kirby, Ruta Gedmintas, Jade Anouka, and James McAvoy are all set to reprise their roles.

On Monday, Lin-Manuel Miranda (who plays aeronaut Lee Scoresby) shared funny videos of himself goofing around on the set with co-star Andrew Scott (who plays marine Colonel John Parry).

The talented twosome re-enacted the scene in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic Jurassic Park where Sam Neill’s paleontologist character sees a dinosaur for the first time.

The 40-year-old native New Yorker – who’s an Oscar away from elite EGOT status – tweeted: ‘It’s hard to be in these Jeeps and NOT pretend you are Sam Neill in Jurassic Park.’

Lin-Manuel also posted a snap of himself napping with the 44-year-old Englishman during lunchtime in the tiny trailer they shared.
