HMV to sell books from its flagship Oxford Street store as it looks to cash in on Christmas

HMV is set to expand its books offer as it looks to boost business ahead of Christmas.

The vinyl and CD store will start selling literature at its flagship Oxford Street store in central London on November 18.

The move came as boss Doug Putman declared there was a ‘real buzz’ about Oxford Street.

Reading grew in popularity during the pandemic, with Gen Z sharing their favourite titles on social media.

HMV will dedicate a floor to selling bestsellers including Tik Tok phenomenon A Court Of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas, plus classics from the likes of Stephen King and George Orwell.

Putman, HMV’s Canadian billionaire owner, said he was excited for a Christmas sales boost as the High Street ‘has rediscovered what makes it special post-Covid’.

He added: ‘We’re only going to keep that magic if we continue to innovate and give our shoppers reasons to come back to us.’
