Holly and Phil are left in stitches on This Morning as Dr Chris demonstrates how to POO correctly

This Morning descended into chaos on Tuesday with a bizarre segment about the best way to go to the toilet.

Dr Chris Steele explained that squatting rather than sitting when having bowel movements could carry health benefits, including helping to prevent constipation, hemorrhoids and even colon cancer.

To demonstrate the action Dr Steele sat on a chair and placed his feet on a small stool that is specially designed to help users squat on the toilet.

The moment left presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield crying with laughter.

But viewers were utterly baffled and some claimed the segment had but them off their breakfast.

Dr Steele was discussing the latest health news when he revealed that squatting instead of sitting on the toilet could have major health benefits.

He brought out a stool that has been designed to help people squat over the toilet.

WHY SHOULD YOU SQUAT TO POO?

Squatting while having a bowel movement could help prevent constipation, hemorrhoids and even colon cancer.

Sitting with the body at a 90 degree angle to the leg means a muscle in the colon – called the puborectalis – remains taut.

This keeps the bowel kinked, means it is difficult for faeces to pass through.

Resting one’s feet on a stool bring the legs up to a squatting position the puborectalis loosens, making the colon straight.

The invention alone was enough to set Phil off and he spluttered ‘a stool stool!’

Chris tried to reel the giggling presenters in by telling them that the stool does actually work.

He sat down on his chair to put his feet on the stool – which had ‘poo better feel great’ written on it – and pretended to go to the toilet.

Phil said: ‘Pictures of things I never thought I’d see in my head.’

‘Would you like a newspaper, doctor?’ a giggling Holly said.

Dr Chris tried to move the interview on by explaining that countries who squat instead of sit to poo have lower levels of bowel problems.

However, Holly and Phil weren’t done yet, and continued to poke fun at the stall.

Holly said: ‘I really want the sound department to play some fart sounds so badly.’

Viewers were left wondering what they’d just witnessed when the interview came to an end.

One tweeted: ‘Trying to eat my cheerios whilst they’re talking about the poo, the rectum and constipation. Great.’

‘Segments like these remind me why I love British telly,’ another posted.

A third said: ‘Just went to make a sandwich only to come back for a ”key to healthy bowel movements” feature. Lovely.’

Another wrote: ‘Good grief … Dr Chris adopting the squat position… at a certain age you can’t be too careful Chris.. this could be risky..’
