Hollywood star Matt Damon reveals his very special connection to a surprising Australian city

US superstar Matt Damon has revealed his very special connection to one Australian city – and it’s not Sydney or Melbourne.

The Hollywood actor, 53, appeared on Channel Seven’s Sunrise on Wednesday with Casey Affleck, 48, to promote their upcoming movie The Instigators.

Matt, who spends a lot of time Down Under with his family, revealed in the interview  the love he has for Queensland and in particular iconic Brisbane agricultural festival The Ekka.

‘You’re almost half Australian these days. You seem to be at the Ekka every other year,’ reporter Steve Hargrave said.

‘I’ve been a few years in a row to the Ekka,’ Matt admitted. ‘I don’t know if I’m gonna make it this year, though, because I have to come back to America.’

Matt then explained the festival to Casey Affleck, who was unaware of the annual event.

‘It’s awesome. I gotta bring him [Affleck] to the Ekka,’ Matt said.

The action star added that he’s usually the one to jump on the ‘terrifying’ rides while his family prefer to watch from the sidelines.

‘My kids love it because they force me to go on all those terrifying rides and, you know, their mum refuses to go,’ Matt said.

‘So I draw the short straw. They like watching me get whipped around on those things.’

The Ekka, formally known as the Royal Queensland Show is Queensland’s annual agricultural show and it is held at the Brisbane Showgrounds.

The admission comes after Matt recently chatted about his daughters and what it means being a girl dad.

The movie star spoke with Andy Cohen during an appearance on his SiriusXM show called Radio Andy.

Matt is dad to daughters Isabella, 18, Gia, 15, and Stella, 13, with wife Luciana, 48 – as well as daughter Alexia, 25, from a previous relationship.

When asked what his best advice is on being girl dad, Matt told Andy: ‘Oh man I don’t know. I wouldn’t deign to give anybody advice other than I just try to listen and be helpful. I mean ultimately it’s about building self-esteem.’

Andy asked him on how he reacts if they bring a boy home that they are dating, asking: ‘What kind of dad are you when they bring a boy home and they say, “I’m dating this…”‘

Matt said: ‘Oh I’m fine. I’m cool with that. You know what I mean?’

The actor hails from Boston and Andy asked him if he turns ‘Boston’ on his daughter’s love interests.

‘You don’t turn all Boston, like, “What are you doing with my daughter?”‘

‘No, no, no. That’s like an old trope that I think people, you know like to play up. You know dads like to joke about it amongst each other I think sometimes but no,’ Matt said.
