Home and Away and All Saints star could face new charges

  • Former soap star Martin Peter Lynes could be facing eight new assault charges
  • He was convicted of sexual assault at trial in August despite pleading not guilty
  • The new charges were included in trial transcript at sentencing hearing Friday
  • The judge adjourned case to determine whether Lynes should face new charges
  • Lynes was found guilty over attack on woman in his home on NSW Central Coast

Former soapie star Martin Peter Lynes could be facing further assault charges after previously being convicted of sexual assault.

Best known for his roles in All Saints and Home and Away, Lynes was found guilty in August of sexual assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The 50-year-old had pleaded not guilty over the attacks on a woman in 2015 and 2016 in his home in Bateau Bay on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Lynes may now be facing eight further charges over the same attacks, as the Director of Public of Prosecutions did not declare how they wished to move forward.

He appeared at Parramatta District Court for sentencing on Friday, but Judge Robert Sutherland said he will ask for advice from the DPP and adjourned the matter, The Daily Telegraph reported.

During sentencing the DPP provided a transcript for Lynes’ trial as evidence of the eight new charges relating to an incident before the sexual assault occurred.

The possible new charges include three charges of common assault, four of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one act of induce assault.

‘The real question as to whether or not the certification is to be viewed as back up offences has some significance to me because if they are then should be subsumed,’ said Judge Sutherland.

‘If on the other hand some of the charges are viewed as related offences then DPP needs to make a decision if they want to deal with them as separate offences.’

Lynes was found guilty of sexual assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and not guilty of two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sexual intercourse without consent.

The former actor – now a real estate agent on the Central Coast – denied assaulting the woman during an interview with police.

It is alleged he grabbed the victim by the hair and banged her head up and down on the sofa where she was lying.

Judge Sutherland is due to hear the matter in court next week to determine whether Lynes will face the new charges.
