Home And Away star Emily Symons bemoans fans who say she looks ‘fat on television’ as Marilyn

She’s known to Home And Away viewers as longtime Summer Bay resident Marilyn Chambers.

But Emily Symons ditched her character’s signature style on Tuesday, sporting an effortlessly chic look and slimmed-down frame during an appearance on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show.

The 48-year-old Australian actress stunned in a tailored black pantsuit which highlighted her noticeably slender figure.

Despite looking better than ever, Emily revealed during the interview that some Home and Away fans have openly criticised her weight.

The mother-of-one told hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur that viewers often tell her: ‘You look fat on television. You are very short. The normal things.’

But Emily laughed off the harsh comments, insisting that most ‘say lovely things’.

‘They say they used to watch it with their mum and now they are watching it with their kids. Our fans are wonderful and we would not be here without them,’ she said.

Emily’s monochromatic outfit and straight locks were quite the contrast to Marilyn’s bright, colourful outfits and voluminous tresses.

Kylie observed: ‘Your look is very much a departure from Marilyn. That would be a good thing, because at the end of the day, you get to be Emily again.’

Emily replied: ‘I can go shopping and not be approached. Not that I mind it at all, but nobody recognises me, because I look like a feral, exhausted mother at the shops!’

Referencing her flawlessly applied makeup, she added: ‘I do not look like this, that’s for sure.’
