Home and Away star Sophie Dillman shares health battle after she was left unable to walk

Sophie Dillman has revealed the difficulty of travelling while living with endometriosis.

The Home and Away star, 29, was recently away in Paros, Greece and was left unable to walk due to severe period cramps.

‘As I am sitting on my balcony in Greece, (which is breathtaking BUT a tale for another time- travel blog anyone?) I am torn,’ she writes for Yahoo.

‘I really want to paint the town red. I want to dive in the ocean, explore, drink 4000 Aperols. However, I am on my period and could literally paint the town red.

‘I am in so much pain I can’t walk properly, I can’t eat and my stomach is so swollen none of my new holiday clothes fit.’

The actress says her symptoms include sharp pain in her abdomen, lower back and leg, as well as nausea, fatigue and ‘terrible swelling’ in her torso.

Sophie asked herself, ‘Was this whole week a waste?’ as she was struggling during the trip.

‘To sum up my experience with this condition, it’s f***ing awful. It has affected me physically, mentally, emotionally, my relationships, work and NOW IT HAS COME FOR ME ON HOLIDAY,’ she added.

Earlier this year, Sophie said in an Instagram post she was in so much pain that she couldn’t get up from the floor.

She also acknowledged her appearance can change from day to day because of the bloating and discomfort associated with the condition.

‘Endometriosis can look like this or this depending on the day,’ she wrote, referring to two photos of herself – one of her looking vibrant and healthy, and the other of her looking worn out and tired.

‘I haven’t been able to move from the floor this morning because it’s too painful to even walk around the house,’ she added.

‘But then some days it doesn’t affect me at all. I don’t know when the pain or swelling or nausea will start or end,’ Sophie added. ‘The unknown is heartbreaking.’

Endometriosis is a disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that lines the uterus grows outside the uterus in places where it doesn’t belong.

The actress, who recently departed Summer Bay, said she’d managed to find the rare positives through her portrayal of Ziggy Astoni.

Speaking with the Herald Sun in January, she said Ziggy’s confidence helped her adjust to the symptoms and see herself as a representation for other women.

‘It was a really hard adjustment,’ the former nurse said when discussing her nerves about appearing on TV with the bloating her condition caused.

‘And then I would keep trying to say to myself that Ziggy would never care what she looks like. Ziggy loves herself 100 per cent and that gave me a lot of comfort.

‘Secondly, I also think that when I was younger and first suffering from those symptoms, that if I had seen someone on television with the same thing that I would feel seen.’

It comes after Sophie confirmed she had left Home and Away with her on-and-off-screen boyfriend Patrick O’Connor, who plays Dean Thompson.
