A savvy woman has devised a brilliant way to make homemade ice cream cones and bowls using her Kmart family pie maker

To make the cones, the woman used an assortment of ingredients to make the batter – which she said can last up to five days in the fridge.

The woman also provided several helpful tips for those who want to try the homemade recipe themselves.

‘These cones are best eaten the day they are made, if you have any left over carefully store in an airtight container for up to two days,’ she said.

When preparing the cones she said this must be done quickly, otherwise the cones will cool and not form properly.

She also said to do this with care and avoid rolling them too tight.

She then dipped the top section of each cone in melted chocolate and sprinkles.

The mum also made ice cream bowls using a muffin tray to create the shape, which could be done using the smaller pie maker

To make the bowl, she first cooked the batter in the pie maker then placed the flat cone over the muffin tray and gently pushed down using a glass to form the shape.

How to make ice cream cones in the family pie maker

INGREDIENTS

2 large egg whites

1/2 cup (4 oz/115g) sugar

3 tablespoons whole milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch salt

2/3cup (100g) plain flour, sifted

2 tablespoons (1oz/30g) butter, melted

Options to decorate:

Melted chocolate

Sprinkles

Toasted nuts

Method

Place egg whites, sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt into a mixing bowl and whisk together

Stir in flour and butter until fully incorporated and batter is smooth

Turn on pie maker and wait for it to heat up for at least two minutes

Pour 1 1/2 tablespoons batter into the centre and using the back of a spoon, in a circular motion starting from the inside to the outside, spread into a thin even layer

Move it around fast to get a nice round shape

Cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until base has set and the edges start to brown

Flip and continue to cook for 1 to 2 minutes

Using a silicon covered palette knife or thin spatula lift the disc out and quickly but carefully roll from the bottom of the cone to shape it (this must be done quickly as the disc will begin to harden almost immediately after leaving the pie maker)

Tip: Focus on rolling the bottom of the cone first and that makes it easier to shape the rest of the cone.

Take care not to roll it tight, you want a night opening on top to fill with ice cream.

Dip the cones in chocolate and cover in nuts or sprinkles and set the cones on parchment until the chocolate hardens

‘This will be the next post to go viral! Brilliant idea!’ one woman commented.

‘Now you just need to make an ice cream stand and sell them out the front,’ another joked.

‘Wow this is creative but I have the small pie maker and I don’t think it will work,’ a third said, to which the mum replied the smaller pie maker can be used to make miniature ice cream bowls.
