A high school senior, who was crowned the homecoming queen in a ceremony earlier this year, was killed when police say she lost control of her car and was hit by a truck just one mile from her Georgia school.
Georgia State Patrol officers said Grace Elizabeth Sheer, 18, was traveling west in her 2002 Honda CRV around 7:30am on Monday when she ‘failed to negotiate a curve’, overcorrected and veered into the eastbound lane, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The teen’s SUV was struck by a tractor-trailer and pushed into an embankment. The impact of the crash destroyed the front of the truck.

Students said the curve Sheer died at is sharp and very dangerous
Police said Sheer later died from her injuries. The truck driver, 42-year-old Edwin Kincannon, was not injured. Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The accident happened in Dawson County on Highway 53 and Buddy Burt Road near a curve students and residents described as ‘dangerous’.
‘It’s a recipe for disaster,’ resident Dell Conner told WSB-TV, adding that the current speed limit at the curve of 55mph is too fast. ‘We have to slow down in this curve. This is the most dangerous strip in Dawson County on Highway 53.’
Student Zach Bishop told the outlet that the curve is known to be ‘not safe’.

Friends of the family set up a GoFundMe page seeking donations to help Sheer’s parents cover funeral arrangements
A GoFundMe account set up by friends of the family to help offset funeral costs said the 18-year-old was also an honor student and played on the school’s soccer team as well for a traveling soccer team. She also had a 10-year-old sister.
Student Darren Johnson told WSB that Sheer was extremely bright and was one of the most popular girls at the school.
‘Obviously it was sad. No high schooler can expect that to happen,’ he said
