A 54-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested nearby and charged with murder.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Police say the victim and the 54-year-old were not known to each other and the alleged attack is believed to be random.

The victim is yet to be identified but is a young pharmacist who had only bought his home earlier this year, Nine News reported.

Neighbours said they heard screams from a woman inside the home for about ten minutes late at night on Tuesday and called police.

Police arrived at the scene but left before returning again on Wednesday morning when the body was found.
