People have been left divided over a man’s method to stop people walking across his front garden.

Thomas Lyons, who goes by tgunz81 on TikTok, posted footage from his home security camera showing people cutting across his land at all hours of the day.

In an attempt to deter people from doing this, the owner installed a sprinkler outside of his house.

But social media users have branded the solution ‘mean’, while others have praised him and said that the instillation is ‘absolutely genius’.

And the viral video has garnered more 9.3 million likes and over 109,000 shares.

In the video, unsuspecting people can be seen walking across the large area of grass in front of his house, completely unaware of what’s coming

In the video, which is captioned ‘#funny’, people can be seen walking across the large area of grass in front of his house, completely unaware of what’s coming.

Just moments after, they are hit with a quick burst of water coming from the sprinkler, as it moves from left to right.

And the result sees a lot of damp and panicked strangers, who are sent running off back to the public footpath.

In the TikTok video, Mr Lyons explains why he set up the hose.

He wrote: ‘When people won’t stop cutting across your lawn, set up an automatic sprinkler.’

However, viewers on the social media site have been left divided on whether his method is too harsh of a punishment.

One person in support of the surprise sprinkler commented: ‘People saying put a fence…..why would someone spend money on something that is not a need, people have to respect other’s people properties.’

While another said: ‘I think this is absolutely genius!! why on earth should ANYBODY think it appropriate to trespass on your land?!? Well done Sir.’

Another agreed, adding: ‘This is a great idea!! I was always taught that it’s rude to walk on someones [sic] lawn.’

However others were left totally divided on the method as they sprinkler as ‘mean’, but also added: ‘do it again’.

Meanwhile, some users were completely against the method as a whole.

One person wrote: ‘Wow! People really are petty.’

And a second person said: ‘If you care that much about your property line then put up a fence.’

And a third simply put: ‘The water bill.’

While another had a completely different idea and wrote: ‘Imagine that one person that doesn’t care and keeps walking.’
