Horrific details emerge as woman is found dead in Gunnedah, NSW: Blood-stained man, 29, is arrested at a caravan park

A blood-stained man has been arrested after a woman’s body was found at a rural NSW caravan park.

Emergency services were called to a commotion in a tent at G’Day Parks Caravan Park on Henry St in Gunnedah, north-central NSW, about 8.20am Friday.

NSW Police Chief Inspector Michael Wurth said police arrived to the property within four minutes of the triple-0 call. There, police found a man allegedly covered in blood.

Then they discovered a woman, believed to be in her 50s, seriously injured in a nearby tent.

“(The) ambulance arrived shortly after and commenced critical trauma examinations on the female … unfortunately the female passed away at the scene,’ the senior officer said, according to the ABC.

The woman is yet to be formally identified.

Chief Insp Wurth described the scene as ‘traumatic’, adding officers had felt a sense of urgency when they saw the allegedly bloodied man.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he is assisting police.

Police believe, based on initial inquiries, the man and the woman are known to each other.

‘They are Gunnedah residents,’ Insp Wurth said.

‘The male was a resident at the caravan park for about two weeks we believe, but the other person … lives in a house separately.’

A knife was found nearby and seized, as police established a crime scene on Friday morning.

Specialist police will continue to forensically examine the area, and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Detectives from the Oxley Police District have spoken to a number of witnesses, and the chief inspector appealed for any further witnesses to come forward with information.
