A ‘horrified’ mother said she nearly screamed the house down after she claims she discovered a cockroach and its eggs inside her young daughter’s new Primark pyjamas.

Karla Roy said she had been helping her two-year-old daughter Ruby open her birthday presents on December 24 – only to find a cockroach and eggs inside the garments.

The 23-year-old from Mansfield, East Midlands, believes the insect came from India where she claims the pyjamas – which cost under £5 – were made.

Karla, who works as a care worker said she realised something was wrong after she opened the pyjamas for her daughter who was looking at her new nightwear.

‘I took the pyjamas out of the packaging as I usually wash new clothes before she wears them, but then it fell out and I nearly screamed the house down.

‘I grabbed the pyjamas from Ruby and put them into a closed tub. I was completely mortified and couldn’t believe my eyes!

‘Imagine if I wasn’t there and Ruby opened the present alone – she could have eaten it.

‘Or if it was alive it could have ran away and infested my home with more eggs.’

Karla claims she contacted Primark and posted the photos on Facebook to ‘warn’ her friends – the post has since been shared over 50 times.

She added: ‘The clothes were made or packed in India so it must have crawled in there because it was cosy in the trousers with all its eggs lying about.

‘Primark are going to send me a prepaid packaging slip so I can send the pyjamas back for them to investigate.

‘I would like an apology from them.

‘It has put me off Primark – especially for children’s clothes as they are always folded up in packaging and I don’t want to find another one.’

A Primark spokesperson said: ‘Primark takes the quality of our products very seriously and have rigorous quality control procedures in place.

‘We are in touch with the customer and have requested further information so we can fully investigate the complaint.’
