Police said they identified two males in a suspected stolen car as ‘persons of interest’ but when they approached on foot the vehicle attempted to escape.

The car allegedly drove onto the footpath and a police officer was injured while trying to open the door.

Two students aged 14 and 15 were struck after the car accelerated, and the 15-year-old suffered a broken wrist.

The injured officer was treated at Caboolture Hospital, and the 14-year-old did not need medical treatment.

A 15-year-old passenger in the suspected stolen car, a male from Narangba, was arrested after being apprehended by the group of teenagers in the video.

He was charged with four counts of enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts each of enter premises and commit indictable offence, stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of trespass.

The driver is still at large, and a 13-year-old who helped apprehend the passenger was spoken to in relation to the use of excessive force.

The mother of the boy in the video has slammed the teens who made the citizen’s arrest, saying they should have let the police do their job.

‘They could have just let him run, the police would have got him eventually,’ the teenager’s mother told Seven News.

‘Later on down the track there would have been fingerprints in the car, these guys aren’t heroes, they could have killed my son and they need to learn that.’
