Horrifying moment driver collides with elderly woman on a mobility scooter in Perth

Terrifying footage has captured the moment an elderly lady on her mobility scooter was hit by a car.

The woman had tried to cross a road in Perth when she was suddenly struck by the vehicle on Friday.

Dashcam footage from a passing car was shared to Facebook showing the horrifying collision unfold.

The elderly woman, who was wearing a white sun hat, had been trying to cross a four lane road and made it to the middle.

She was seen in the video slowing down after she noticed an oncoming car.

The scooter driver could be seen crossing two lanes of the busy road, before slowing down at the double lines

She signaled at the driver to cross the lane and the oncoming car slowed down to allow her to pass.

The elderly woman went to cross the final lane and had nearly reached the street when she was struck by a white Camry.

The driver of the car immediately slammed on their brakes leaving the other driver stunned.

‘I knew that would happen,’ they were heard saying off-camera.

The impact of the crash forced the lady and her scooter sideways sending the woman to the ground.

She was seen in the video slowly getting back to her feet.

Social media users were divided over who was to blame for the crash with some arguing the elderly lady shouldn’t have been crossing the road.

‘Mobility scooters shouldn’t be on the road,’ one commented.

‘I’ve always called them Jesus chairs as the way most of them drive, it’s the quickest way that they’ll get to meet him,’ another wrote.

‘Absolutely not shocked by this,’ another commented.

But some social media users believed it was up to the white Camry to prevent the collision.

‘Still, that Camry driver was slow to react, driver still could have avoided that,’ they wrote.

Another said: ‘The white car didn’t slow at all, lucky it wasn’t a hoon speeding!’
