Horrifying moment mum and baby in a pram are struck down by Mitsubishi – as cops hunt for driver

The heart-stopping moment a mother pushing her baby in a pram was struck by a car in an alleged hit and run has been captured on CCTV.

As the woman crossed Claremont Street in Merrylands, in Sydney’s west, a blue Mitsubishi turned into the street and struck her at about 1.40pm on Friday.

The Mitsubishi was then seen driving away from the injured mother.

Incredibly, the car missed the pram by centimetres and the baby was unharmed, but the woman, aged in her 40s, fell to the ground with a broken leg.

Witnesses came to her aid and called emergency services. The woman’s son arrived a short time later and took care of his baby sister.

Witnesses told attending officers the driver of the car didn’t stop.

Local man Mohammed Narrouzi was one of the first on the scene.

He found the woman on the side of the road, with her baby by her side.

‘She was lying down there bleeding and I asked her what happened. She was barely speaking,’ Mr Narrouzi told 9News.

As well as trying to comfort the injured mum, who is from Afghanistan, Mr Narrouzi also acted as her interpreter as she described the driver to police.

The police are still searching for the driver and have urged them or anyone who recognises the blue Mitsubishi to come forward.
