This is the horrifying moment nurses discover a dead newborn that had been tossed in a hospital trash bag by a teen mom who claims she didn’t know she was pregnant.
Alexee Trevizo, 19, can be seen running to the bathroom inside Artesia General Hospital, New Mexico, in January of this year in new surveillance footage.
Trevizo had attended the hospital with back pain but tests revealed she was pregnant and in labor.
The new footage shows nearly twenty minutes pass before she makes her way back to her room on the ward and staff can be inspecting the toilet after she leaves.
Investigators say that after using the bathroom she gave birth to the baby boy before placing him in the trash can.
Trevizo was charged in May with first-degree murder plus a count of tampering with evidence and has been released without an ankle monitor until a trial date.
Shortly after she exited the toilet, a cleaner made the shocking discovery and staff can be seen here after they made the discovery
The cleaner who made the horrific discovery is seen being consoled in this picture by two other members of staff, before she was led away from the scene
Over twenty minutes later, a domestic can be seen cleaning the toilet after staff said they discovered blood inside.
The cleaner can be seen calling another member of staff and the two peer into a black trash bag before both quickly step back.
After realizing what they have found, more members of staff can be seen arriving on the scene to check the contents of the garbage can.
Five minutes after the discovery, the cleaner who found the newborn can be seen being consoled by two members of staff before she is led away by another with an arm over her shoulder.
Soon after police officers can be seen arriving on the scene and bodycam footage captured the moment a doctor explains to Trevizo and her mother: ‘We discovered a dead baby in the bathroom.’
Trevizo tells the doctor: ‘I’m sorry, it came out of me and I didn’t know what to do … I was just scared, it was not crying or nothing.’
Trevizo’s distraught mother holds her head in her hands as she pleads with her daughter, saying: ‘What did you do?’
‘What did you do to it’ the mother demands and holds her head in her hands in desperation, before the doctor tells her to ‘stop right there’.
Trevizo’s mother appears not to have known her daughter was nine months pregnant
‘It came out of me, I put it in the bag. In the trash bag. I’m sorry mom’ the traumatized teen whispers
‘The number one priority guys’ the doctor goes on ‘is she just had a baby, I don’t know whether she has delivered the placenta. She’s bleeding significantly’ she says, before explaining that the teenager must be moved to the obstetrician.
‘I’m sorry about this, but in terms of delivering a baby and it looked like you tried to hide it, we do have to have the police involved.
‘The baby is going to have to be taken for autopsy and there will be an investigator and everything’ the doctor continues in a calm voice.
‘I’m so sorry, but we need to do this correctly and I want to be transparent with you about what our steps are going to be.’
‘Nothing was crying, it came out with nothing’ Trevizo repeats.
A male medic in the room then asks the mother and daughter if they have any questions, to which Trevizo’s mother asks how big the baby is.
‘It’s full term’ the masked medic responds.
‘What!’ she exclaims, suggesting she did not know that her daughter was nine months pregnant prior to the birth.
Alexee Trevizo, 19, has admitted to giving birth to a baby boy and placing him in a trashcan
Newly released bodycam footage shows the heartbreaking admission
‘Lexi, have you watched the news, about what the girls do to their babies and they go to jail’ the mother asks in frustration.
A traumatized Trevizo bursts into tears and is then told that there are detectives on the way to talk to her and that she is now detained in the hospital under police custody.
At the beginning of the released body cam footage, a nurse told responding officers that Trevizo had a positive pregnancy test but denied having sex.
Investigators say that by the time the baby was found it had died and an autopsy listed the cause of death as a homicide in March.
On May 10 Police charged Trevizo with first-degree murder, ‘or alternatively’ intentional abuse of a child resulting in death, plus a count for tampering with evidence.
Trevizo has since been released from jail and will be able to finish the school year without an ankle monitor or house arrest, while she waits to stand trial.
Gary C. Mitchell, an attorney for Trevizo, previously told the Associated Press that his client has no criminal record and should not be facing a murder charge.
He said there are ‘major discrepancies about what happened’ in the hospital and ‘this isn’t a classic child abuse case.’
This is the second high-profile case of a mother and newborn baby in New Mexico in recent years.
Jurors convicted Alexis Avila, 19, of throwing her newborn into an outdoor trash receptacle in January 2020 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
