Horror as man is punched to floor and hit by a train after fight breaks out at central London Tube station

A suspected thug who knocked a victim into the path of a moving train, causing his head to be hit by one of the carriages, is at the centre of a British Transport Police (BTP) manhunt.

CCTV images show a man who is suspected to have punched the victim in the head multiple times after a fight erupted on on a tube station platform on Friday night at 11.30pm.

The victim, in his 30s, fell to the floor near the edge of the central line London Underground platform at Tottenham Court Road Station after receiving multiple punches to the head. 

He was then hit by a passing train carriage as it departed the station, suffering serious jaw injuries. 

BTP said they would like to speak to the man pictured in connection with the incident. 

The British Transport Police released the photos on Twitter captioned: ‘We’re looking to identify this man in connection? Do you know who he is’ 

The victim remains in hospital today receiving treatment for the trauma as BTP appeals for witnesses of the fight to come forward.

A spokesman for BTP said: ‘At approximately 11.30pm on Friday evening, a fight erupted on the Central Line platforms at Tottenham Court Road, Soho, London, following a verbal altercation.

‘During the fight, the victim, a man in his thirties, was punched a number of times to the head, causing him to fall to the floor. As the a Tube carriage departed the station, it struck the victims head on the platform edge, causing a serious injury.’

DC Helen Buckland from BTP, said: ‘We’re in the early stages of our investigation and I am urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward.

‘Likewise, I would be keen to hear from anyone who recognises the man shown in these CCTV images.

‘I believe he holds vital information which could help us understand exactly what happened. 

‘The victim remains in hospital at this time receiving further treatment to a very serious injury to his jaw.’

The spokesman added: ‘Officers believe the man shown in these CCTV images may have information which could help them investigate.
