Horse owner watches three Clydesdales killed by lightning

A South Australian woman was forced to watch as three of her beloved horses were struck down and instantly killed by a lightning strike.

Lynn Brierley was inside Wednesday evening at her property in Mount Gambier as a storm began to roll in, but ventured outside after realising one of her horses still had its rug on.

That was when with one giant crack, about four metres from where she was standing, three of her beautiful four-legged friends were hit with a lightning bolt.

In a ‘gunshot-like’ instant, the lives of three of her gentle giants were taken.

Ms Brierley announced the heartbreaking news to Facebook on Wednesday evening.

‘FFS. LIGHTNING JUST TOOK 3 OF MY HORSES. JUST PISS OFF NOW. YOU WIN…..,’ she wrote.

Later in the evening she revealed she’d be staying by the sides of her remaining ‘babies’ while seeing through the rest of the storm.

‘Well I’m not leaving my remaining horses on their own tonight through this F….g storm. I’ll stay out with them all night if I have to.’

She added it had only just missed her horses Sylvie, Herc and a foal.

‘I was 4ft away from my babies when they got struck…I though I had lost all 6….The most horrific sight I will ever witness,’ Ms Brierly said.

‘Can’t get the vision out of my head…R.I.P. MY BEAUTIFUL ONES…you will always be in my heart.’

Ms Brierley runs rescue business, Kehsarra Clydesdale, said one of the horses was used for therapy with the elderly, another was a special needs horse with no teeth, and the third was in retirement, Yahoo7 reported.

‘I was just terrified. It shook us all to our cores tonight more then we will ever say,’ she said.
