Hospital is slammed for serving putrid food

Would you eat this? Hospital is slammed for serving putrid food including stews that look like dog food

  • Shocking photos reveal repulsive food is being served at a major hospital in SA
  • Jelly-like chicken soup, uncooked pies and ‘dog food’ stews are a few menu items
  • Patients have complained that the food is not up to scratch during their stays

Stews that look like dog food and undercooked pies are among the grim food options at a major South Australian hospital.

Patients are forced to eat putrid food and are served late at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide since a new caterer took over on May 1.

The drop in food quality is due to ‘changeover issues’ by Danish facility services company International Service System (ISS).

A picture of beef casserole still in the shape of a plastic container was posted on Facebook by a patient.

‘Most of their meals looked like dog food from a can – it was gross,’ another woman commented.

A gelatinous chicken soup that looked like an apple strudel was another of the hospital’s delicacies.

One 15-month-old boy was fed undercooked pies, according to his grandmother.

‘Terrible food for a young sick child,’ the grandmother wrote online.

One woman has had to buy food for her husband who is a patient at the hospital because he is not being fed.

‘Meals have been delivered late and some days meals have been forgotten,’ she wrote on Facebook.

‘I don’t expect the food to be five-star restaurant quality but for most patients, breakfast, lunch and dinner is the highlight of the day.

‘I don’t believe that they should be deprived of decent food just because “they’re not paying for it”.’

ISS has taken over meal deliveries for the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network which includes Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Hospital, GP Plus clinics and mental health services

‘During this transitional period we have experienced some changeover issues,’ a SA Health spokeswoman said.

‘We are confident that the new processes we have put in place will ensure our patients continue to receive a high quality meal service in a timely manner.’
