A hot air balloon has been forced to make an emergency landing in a Melbourne reserve.

Shocked residents spotted the balloon flying low above homes before it hit the ground in Walter Street Reserve at Ascot Vale in the city’s west after it hit the ground around 7.30am Friday.

It’s not believed anyone has been injured. 

Photos from the scene show the balloon surrounded by stunned onlookers. 

‘I was on my morning walk and I noticed this hot air balloon getting lower and lower and it just made an emergency landing right near the goal posts,’ Christine told 3AW.
