Houston hurts as more than a MILLION cars are destroyed

People impacted by the disastrous Hurricane Harvey are starting to rebuild their lives but with over 40,000 homes destroyed, many are finding it hard to take those steps.

But a figure just as staggering are the more than a million cars in the Houston, Texas, metro area, that are ruined. 

‘You really have to have a car if you’re in Houston,’ said executive director of Transportation Advocacy Group Houston, Andrea French to Yahoo Finance.

94.4 percent of households in the Houston area have cars – which translate to about 1.8 cars per house – according to analyst firm Cox Automotive.

Dallas is the only city in Texas with a higher percentage.

Houston’s mayor insists that America’s fourth-largest city is ‘open for business,’ but with areas under water, people not yet in their homes, and billions in damage to repair, major disasters that Harvey created are by no means resolved.

Mayor Sylvester Turner said much of the city was hoping to get back on track after Labor Day.

‘Anyone who was planning on a conference or a convention or a sporting event or a concert coming to this city, you can still come,’ he told CBS. 

‘We can do multiple things at the same time.’
